From last week's Spud War, we continue our tuberous theme with Tater Totz, which you might think would be even more contentious than Devo's synth-heavy fifth album, but which seems to have been more well received at KCMU. What is the deal with Tater Totz? I think just attempting to explain this project would take up more space than I usually give to an entire post. But I did find a very thorough and well-written post elsewhere on the Internet which puts it all in perspective pretty well. Basically, indie rock superstars/smartypantses get super-weird and jokey, and put out this thing that nobody knows what to do with. Perhaps this is exactly what you need to do get college radio DJs excited!
"So many cool people on here this time around. Shonen Knife, Redd Cross [sic], Cherie Currie, Pandoras, etc.... Yoko was never like this." "And it's too bad." "A couple of the songs are done a little too straight. All part of the joke? Probaby. 1.6 is a prime example. Fave tracks are 1.3, 2.2, 2.3 + 2.6, the latter of which I believe is the LP's star. Play up. M" "Humma-humma-hummmmmm. Oooooogggggh - Blitz - oooh. I be all lightheaded now. Ohhhhoohhh. H" "Play. H. For a while, please?" "Oh goodness. Time to quit bringing in my old Ono/Plastic Ono Band LPs, through the rain, because now we have this. Yoko's time has come. Let's rock!" "Sorry, but this is reaally fuckin' lame." "Bit boring." "Not H material." |
