Our next set for the KEXP Broadcast live from KEX Hostel at Iceland Airwaves is New York-based quintet Caveman. Caveman's sound has evolved rapidly in the last few years. An overnight success, their 2011 debut Coco Beware was dreamy indie-pop, with light, floating synths and gentle harmonizing vocals. Their new, self-titled record is a horse of an entirely different color. Their new songs, while still atmospheric and pop-ey, have taken to the band to a whole new level of songwriting. The sound is bigger, richer, more ethereal, and an all-around treat for the ears.
The set began with "Shut You Down," a dreamy indie-rock song featuring atmospheric guitars and vocals with a bit of a folk rock feel. The next song, "My Time," was a bit more upbeat and really got the crowd moving. "Ankles" was a bit slower, and really highlighted the impressive vocal range of frontman Matthew Iwanusa.
Caveman ended their set with "In The City," the single from their most recent album, Caveman. "In the City" has a distinct synth-heavy 80's vibe, and really ended the show on a high note.
