  • Earlier this week, we announced a new Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks album was due out in January, and today we can share a new single with you. Stream the lyric video for "Lariat" below. The new album, delightfully titled Wig Out at Jagbags, is due out January 7th on Matador Records. [Consequence of Sound]

  • A public memorial for the late Lou Reed will take place on Thursday, November 14th at Lincoln Center in New York City. From 1-4 PM, fans are invited to gather at Paul Milstein Pool and Terrace. According to a Facebook post, there will be "no speeches, no live performances, just Lou’s voice, guitar music & songs – playing the recordings selected by his family and friends."   • Cults were the musical guest on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" last night -- watch them perform the track "High Road" from their latest album Static. [Pitchfork]

  • And while it remains to be seen if his debut will make it into rotation at KEXP, we can't help but be intrigued at the news that actor RJ Mitte, aka "Walt Jr" aka "Flynn" on AMC's acclaimed TV series Breaking Bad, plans to start a music career. Perhaps he can work with Prince on a concept album about breakfast. [NME]
