We're excited to announce that beloved local label Light In The Attic is opening a physical record store in Ballard! We simply had to know more about this hot new retail spot, so we hit up label co-owner Josh Wright for a quick Q&A!
What inspired the launch of the Light in the Attic Record Store?Josh Wright: We've always had the dream of curating our own record store, so when we finally had a warehouse location that could fit both purposes, it was a no brainer. LITA's retail marketing values are based around getting as close as we can to the final customer, so this fits right into that mold.
Will the store remain open year-round, or is it a seasonal pop-up shop?
We look forward to having the store open year round.
Us, too! Are there plans to expand the hours down the road?
I hope so. This is all new to us, so we'll see what the demand is over the first few months.
What are a few of your favorite record stores around the world?
That's a tough question! LITA works direct with some amazing stores worldwide, but at the end of the day it always comes back to our hometown supporters, a la Sonic Boom, Easy Street, Everyday, Silver Platters, Wall Of Sound, etc. Outside of the locals, I'd have to go with End Of An Ear (Austin, TX), Grimey's (Nashville, TN), Harvest (Asheville, NC), Piccadilly (Manchester, UK), Le Silence de le Rue (Paris, France), Rushhour (Amsterdam, NL)... Could list so many, it's kinda nuts!
Join them for a Grand Opening Party on Friday, December 6th, from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. KEXP's own DJ Johnny Horn will be spinning, along with Supreme La Rock. Kevin Murphy of The Moondoggies will perform a solo set. And oh yeah, did we mention? There will be free beer and music giveaways!
The Light in the Attic Record Store will be located at 913 NW 50th Street in Ballard. Once launched, the store will open every Friday from 1:00 to 5:00 PM weekly. Watch a solo set from Kevin Murphy below, filmed in 2009 at our Capitol Hill Block Party broadcast:
