There isn't much background floating around when it comes to Yonder, but a little mystery never hurt anybody. The indie-rock band has only been working together, as a trio, since earlier this year, but once you hear their music you'll find that hard to believe. Seattle natives Chris Reisinger and Nick Cappelletti, who were playing together in a band called Elba, met Alex Clark, heard him play, and invited him into the fold. Simple enough. These three guys have a unique ability to create fresh, captivating material, but they have to get their inspiration from somewhere. They cite innovative bands such as: Sparklehorse, the Pixies, and Joy Division as their key influences. Safe to say they have really good taste.
Last month they self-released, Yonder, a three-song EP that is designed to take the listener on a journey through nature's powerful elements. "Bellwether" is defined as "someone or something that leads others or shows what will happen in the future" and if this is the future of indie music, count me in. It's an elemental track that speaks to the stormy weather and isolation of which Seattlites are extremely familiar. This song has all the makings of a stand-out indie rock anthem. There's pulsating percussion, rich guitar rifts, and fuzzy vocals delivering poignant lyrics.
This Friday, November 8, Yonder will be performing at Blue Moon along with alternative rock band Power Cassette and folk band Darling Rollercoaster.
