  • Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks may not drop their new album, Wig Out at Jagbags, until January 7, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it a little early. Today, you can stream the entire album on Amazon. Be sure to check it out, and to furthur persuade you (not that I need to) watch their fantastic video for "Cinnamon and Lesbians." [Pitchfork]

  • On February 4, Starbucks will release their fifth love song compilation, aptly titled, Sweetheart 2014. The album features indie artists covering their favorite love songs. Listen to Beck take on John Lennon and Phil Spector's "Love." [Stereogum]

  • While Beyonce's self-titled visual album is a certified hit and total game changer for the music industry, that doesn't mean that Queen B is exempt from controversy. Her track "XO" has been criticized by former NASA employees because the song features official voice recordings from the 1986 Challenger explosion. Here is Beyonce's official statement:
"My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster. The song ’XO’ was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things happen, so love and appreciate every minute that you have with those who mean the most to you. The songwriters included the audio in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten."
Let's hope this issue can be resolved, and both parties can move into a peaceful 2014. [Stereogum]

  • The Flaming Lips are ringing in the New Year at Aspen's Belly Up concert and it looks like they may have a few tricks up their sleeves. Apparently, the band has been rehearsing several Beatles' covers and today we have their full length cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."Those lucky enough to be in Aspen will be kicking off 2014 in a kick ass way.
