Song of the Day: BRONCHO - Try Me Out Sometime

Today’s song, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “Try Me Out Somtime” by BRONCHO off their self-released debut album Can't Get Past The Lips.

"It's not nostaliga, it's natural," says BRONCHO bassist Jonathan Ford, referring to the Oklahoma City band's undeniably 70's sound. The side-project of Starlight Mints keyboardist Ryan Lindsay, BRONCHO adheres to an style and work ethic highly reminiscent of punk forefathers, a comparison the band embraces with reverence and respect with the addendum that it's anything but a tribute and all about the attitude. In control and in total style, their 10-song debut album clocks in at barely over 20 minutes in triumphant celebration of the foundations of the realy loud and especially fast.

"Try Me Out Sometime" combines a straightforward, 3-chord Ramones-like anthem with clean-cut production and staccato guitar strums. Fast, repetitive and without a hint of aggression, the track toes the line between pop and punk in a way that stays true to the genres' seminal legends. Lindsay spits out his hazy vocals, different iterations of the same self-doubting and timidly hopeful proposition, creating a distinct contrast with the band's high-strung and refined energy that seems to build but never quite erupt, accented of course with a few yelps here and there.

BRONCHO has a string of West Coast dates next month, including a show at the High Dive in Seattle on Sunday, March 3rd, and an in-studio, live on KEXP, at 11:00am on Monday, March 4.
