Brooklyn-based band Antibalas, which is Spanish for "bulletproof", released their fifth studio album last August. This release really launched them on a sizable worldwide tour and lucky for us they happened to make a stop in Seattle. Founded in the late 90s, Antibalas has never strayed from their signature style despite large commercial success. With a band consisting of twelve members, Antibalas is able to deliver a deeply layered and sophisticated music experience without overwhelming your eardrums. Their killer use of brass instruments and conga drums saturated the studio with the band's jazzy afrobeat sound. They performed three songs (one was "Rat Race" which includes an arrangement of Bob Marley's song of the same name) during their December 2012 performance. Antibalas has kicked off on an impressive Australian tour this month. Thankfully you can enjoy the amazing live experience without having to endure a seventeen hour flight.
