On Wednesday, Chop Suey will host the Doe Bay Fest 6 Announcement Party, where the lineup for the upcoming music festival will be announced. The evening will include special guest performances from Doe Bay Fest 2013 performers and is free to the public – a touch typical for the outstanding festival organizing style of Kevin Sur and his team.
“Five bands will be performing and KEXP’s Don Slack will be hosting it,” said Sur. “It’s a fun way to get together to celebrate the excitement of the lineup.”
Throughout the evening videos of some of the lesser-known bands on the lineup will be played to showcase and introduce the audience to the groups.
“We’ve developed a great local following that’s afforded us the chance to not only book bands that are popular but that also that allows so much more – we want to constantly help bands we think are important,” said Sur. “We hope to create an event that brings notoriety to the local music scene here in Seattle.”
Indeed, so much effort is put forth by Sur and his team to organize, sift through music submissions, and present the fun, beautiful and interesting event that is Doe Bay. Sur, who says he has an “open door policy” with bands to talk touring, booking and promotion, has been a touring musician earlier in his life. His goal is to support music, through and through. “You’ll find just as much insane talent that is unknown as there is known,” he said. “Seattle is just so rich with music.”
While none of the bands have been announced yet, Wednesday will provide such an opportunity. “I’m more excited this year than I’ve ever been,” he adds. “I got turned on to more music than I ever had through this process. The headliner is, in my mind, one of the biggest bands we’ve ever booked. I own every one of their records! And some of the bands we’ve booked have never played in the Northwest before, some of the bands it’s their third or fourth time submitting music to us and it finally just worked out.”
The event, which begins at 7:30pm, is free to the public. Lyft, a new peer-to-peer on demand car service launched in Seattle, will be offering $30 in free credit to get attendees to and from the announcement party (visit: http://lyft.me/). Chop Suey is located at 1325 E. Madison St. in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. Doe Bay Music Fest is slated for August 8 – 11.
