Happy Amplifiers Love Week!

Do you remember Spirit Week in high school? When everybody had to wear school colors, show up to class in pajames, or dress as members of the opposite sex? I never, ever thought I'd reflect affectionately on that five-day stretch leading up to the big homecoming game. I loathed Spirit Week, hiding in the wilds of the FFA greenhouse to avoid pep rallies.

But the KEXP Community has turned my head around. Our Amplifiers Love Week kicked off today, and showering the 3,700 donors who power the Amplifiers Monthly Giving Club has left me giddy with excitement. And I'm not the only one: our Assistant Director of Development, Gwen Colwell, showed up for work today dressed in the Amplifiers Love Week colors!

Now I see why the cheerleaders were willing to let their quarterback boyfriends slap on a wig and some lipstick for a day. It's FUN to root for something you feel passionate about, and Amplifiers play a crucial role in helping KEXP grow and evolve. Thanks to their sustained, ongoing monthly gifts, you hear MORE MUSIC on KEXP (like this morning's awesome in-studio by Junip)—because we don't have spend as much time fundraising on air.

We've got a lot of activities planned for Amplifiers Love Week, including parties, a VIP show, and a whole lotta love. You can find the complete list (and tell us why YOU Amplify KEXP) here. And then, like the big homecoming game, there's a big crowing event at the end of the week: our One-Day Fundraising Drive and 8th Annual Hood to Hood Challenge. Hopefully you'll get swept up in the excitement and show your support for KEXP during those "twelve hours of awesome!"

And if you've been thinking about joining the Amplifiers Club and haven't yet, during the One-Day Summer Drive is an ideal time to do it. Trust me, we're going to make it worth your while.

It had been my dream for as long as I can remember, so I guess it’s not surprising that each experience seemed more fantastical to me…our apartment in the building where Picasso had his first Paris studio; eating an ethereal goat cheese that tasted of b…
