You’ve heard me talk about it incessantly in The Roadhouse, and maybe you saw the KEXP vids last year from the “Bunny Glade,” and maybe you were even there when I interviewed Mavis Staples in the Workshop Barn in 2011 (laughs & tears!). If so, you know that this (still) small festival outside of Portland is like The Roadhouse, a premiere platform for Indie Roots music and beyond. It’s pretty eclectic.
I could go on and on about this unique festival that artists LOVE to play, with over seven unique stages, 80 acres of wooded camping area, no garbage, corporate sponsors, or beefy yellow-shirted security guards, but I made this mini-sampler of a mix called The Roadhouse Pickathon Preview Podcast instead.
Like KEXP, Pickathon is super-indie, and all about the discovery. Who will be your discovery this year? (hint: Shakey Graves!) Even if you're not in Oregon, KEXP will be offering a video stream from the festival all weekend long at KEXP.ORG.
I’ll see ya down on Pendarvis Farm!

Since Lake Street Dive's stunning performances during the last two years at Pickathon, fans in the Northwest have been clamoring for a new full-length from the Brooklyn based soul peddlers. Fortunately, they won't have to wait much longer, as Bad Self-Portraits is due February 18, 2014. In anticipa…
There's probably no other festival as intimate, communal and sustainable in the Northwest like Pickathon. This weekend at the Pendarvis Farm just outside Portland, Oregon, a diverse gathering of bands like Feist, Andrew Bird, The Devil Makes Three, Divine Fits and Shabazz Palaces will perform as pa…
Every day I think about partying. When I eat kale, I feel like I'm partying. When I look at the lead singer of The Drums, I feel like I'm partying. When I host my radio show Audioasis, I feel like I'm partying. I basically feel like I'm partying every minute of the day.
It's hard to believe that That's It!, the new album by Preservation Hall Jazz Band, is their first record of all new material, not just because they've had a prolific 50 year history already, but also because the songs fit so seamlessly into the rest of the New Orleans traditionalists' catalog. Ban…
KEXP is proud to support Pickathon and happy to announce the release of this year's daily schedule. The three-day festival at Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley, OR (very close to Portland), on August 2-4, includes performances by over 45 artists on 7 stages, but one of its most unique features is that…
