Song of the Day: Moby - A Case For Shame (feat. Cold Specks)

Over the years, Moby became as well known for his ethereal and moody production as for his tendency to collaborate with others. For his forthcoming release, and particularly on today's featured song, he does't deviate from this trance-like style. A sneak preview, “A Case For Shame”, features the soulful Canadian singer-songwriter Cold Specks, whose voice brings to life the track’s arrangement. A hypnotic piano, distant harmonies, ghostly snares -- these are the components Moby fashions together for this epic over five-minute piece. It’s a song that warms the bones in the face of the onset of fall.

Cold Specks is only one of the many collaborators featured on the “bedroom studio” produced album -- Seattle's own Damien Jurado is another, as are former Seattleite and dark brooder Mark Lanegan, Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips, and Mark “Spike” Stent, who has worked with Muse, Bjork and Massive Attack. Look for more on Innocents in early October. Hopefully by then, he'll have more on his tour schedule than the three shows also in October at LA's Fonda Theatre.
