It’s time again for Friday on My Mind, our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News. Doe Bay Fest got underway yesterday over on Orcas Island. This growing festival is in its sixth year and takes place at one of the most intimate concert venues over at the Doe Bay Resort and Retreat. The festival sold out quickly after tickets were put on sale. Part of the reason why people love this festival is because beyond getting to enjoy live music, the setting is particularly beautiful with camping for attendees. The artist lineup is particularly local heavy and includes Radiation City, The Torn ACLs, La Luz, The Grizzled Mighty, Tomten and Smokey Brights. The fest will continue on until this Sunday. Built To Spill - Hindsight
Built to Spill have been going since 1993, although with a revolving cast of characters. Doug Martsch has remained the constant. The pride of Boise, Idaho, Built to Spill will be taking on Doe Bay this Saturday at 8:25. Here is the official music video for their song “Hindsight” off of their 2010 album, There Is No Enemy.

Bobby Bare Jr. - Sad Smile & Jesus Sandals
Son and namesake of Grammy winning country singer Bobby Bare, the younger Bobby has made a name for himself with his own quirky take on twang. With a Dad in the biz, Bobby Jr. got an early start. He was nominated along with his father for a Grammy when he was only six years old for their duet of the Shel Silverstein song “Daddy, What If”, which he recently recorded with his daughter Isabella for the 2010 compilation he produced, Twistable, Turnable Man, which contained covers of Silverstein’s music. Bobby will play Doe Bay along with his Young Criminal's Starvation League tonight at the Yoga Studio at 11pm. Bobby Bare Jr. is an old friend of KEXP and has performed over our airwaves for our listeners a whopping 12 times. Ken Stringfellow - Superwise
Ken has been going for 3 decades now and besides his solo output and work with The Posies, he’s also worked with R.E.M. and Big Star. Frosting on the Beater celebrated the 20th Anniversary of its release back in April. Ken and Jon Auer answered 20 questions about the album with Sharlese. He has remained very busy over the years, particularly as a producer mostly for European bands, but he co-produced The Long Winters’ When I Pretend to Fall and Damien Jurado’s Rehearsals For Departure. Ken is based in Paris these days with his wife (who is a band manager) and his daughter.Ken just stopped by our studios earlier this week along with Jason Dodson of the Maldives for an amazing live session during The Morning Show. Ken plays Doe Bay Fest tonight with The Maldives as his backing band at The Field Stage from 5:55-6:40 pm.

The Maldives - Walk Away
The Maldives' frontman, Jason Dodson moved to Vancouver, WA, from Virginia and formed The Maldives in 2002. Dobson has said that approximately 30 members have joined and quit the band over the course of 2002 thru 2006. For a couple of years Dodson used the Maldives name for when he went on tour, until 2004 when he did a show at the Tractor Tavern with Jason Bonn and Tim Gadbois. The show was a success, and started the Maldives. Jason and The Maldives are backing Ken Stringfellow during Doe Bay. They'll be playing their own slot this Saturday at the Yoga Studio from 10-11:45 pm. Here is the video from a KEXP in studio performance The Maldives gave back in August of 2009.

Shabazz Palaces - An Echo From the Hosts That Profess In Infinitum
Shabazz Palaces being a part of the 2013 Doe Bay lineup is an example of how eclectic the music bookings for this festival can get. Shabazz Palaces play tonight at 8:30 on the Field Stage. This video is from their amazing KEXP performance from June of 2011. This is just good.
