It’s time again for Friday on My Mind. Our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but this weekend means the end of Summer. For all of us here in the Northern Hemisphere, Autumn 2013 officially begins this Sunday. If you need to do something to help boost your spirits, the first day of Autumn is one of only two days during the year when you can stand an egg on end. So there's that. To help brighten these days as we transition from one season to another, here are a few songs to help you ring in Autumn…

The Kinks - Autumn Almanac

One of the more overlooked bands that emerged from the British Invasion of the 60's, our first song choice is from the Kinks. The lyrics of their 1967 song "Autumn Almanac" helps you to visualize the many common characteristics of Autumn from yellow colored leaves to the lack of sun. And the light and bouncy tempo helps capture the remnants of summer fun, while easing into the slower pace of the Fall. Here is footage of the band performing the song during a variety show back in 1967...

Buffalo Tom - Summer

Our next choice is "Summer" from the Boston based band Buffalo Tom. Although this 1995 song is named for the warmer and sunnier season, the sentiment focuses more on the melancholy felt when the Summer ends and Fall begins. KEXP has been a strong supporter of Buffalo Tom and they have even performed for our listeners during out Hood to Hood Day in Ballard back in 2011. Here is the official video for the song.

Neil Young - Harvest Moon

The Harvest Moon made it's appearance this past Wednesday September 18th. The Harvest Moon marks the beginning of Fall. This particular full moon was dubbed the Harvest Moon because veggies and fruits ripen around this time and before electricity, farmers utilized the light of this full moon to harvest crops. Neil Young's song "Harvest Moon" isn't really about crop harvesting, but it serves as a great soundtrack for the beginning of Fall. From the 1992 and twentieth studio album Neil Young, Harvest Moon, the title song is one of Young's more well known songs. Many of the musicians who appear on this album also appeared on his 1972 album Harvest, which is why many consider this album to be a sequel of sorts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2MtEsrcTTs

Earth, Wind, and Fire - September

Originally released as a single on November 18, 1978. This song hit # 1 on U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Trip out on this video super 70's video...
