Eight is great! KEXP, STG and Starbucks join our Seattle-loving hearts to bring you Little Big Show #8, on Friday, January 31st, at The Neptune Theatre featuring Washed Out and guests Kingdom Crumbs and Kisses.
The Little Big Show concert series was conceived in 2013 to benefit our city’s arts organizations. This show will benefit the non-profit Reel Grrls, educating, challenging and mentoring young women to create media that advances an equitable future for all.
Sub Pop surrealists Washed Out have transcended the "chillwave" genre to become a fully fleshed-out band, using more than just laptops and loops to create their gorgeous, lush sound. Said to have used over 50 instruments, their most recent release Paracosm sports richly detailed arrangements combining warm, atmospheric synths with a variety of instrumentation ranging from vintage keyboards like the Mellotron and Optigan to sitar, marimba and steel guitar. Frontman Ernest Greene has described the new sound as "daytime psychedelia," which they'll bring to The Neptune Theatre that night.
Seattle's own Kingdom Crumbs always bring an amazing live performance. Since bursting on to the scene with their 2012 self-titled debut, Tay Sean and Jerm from Helladope, along with two other members of Seattle’s prolific hip hop collective Cloud Nice, offer up an impressive mix of expansive hip hop inflected with funk, R&B, jazz, atmospheric electro-pop.
And opening the show is Los Angeles band, Kisses -- a duo comprised of romantic couple Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson, which lends itself to their lovey band name. Their 2013 album Kids in L.A. was inspired by author Bret Easton Ellis' 1985 best-selling novel Less Than Zero, and the songs follow the narrative of rich Bel Air teenagers suffering from mid-winter ennui. The California duo will help elevate us Seattleites out of our own late-January slump with their set.
