The 2014 Academy Award nominations were announced this morning including nods to Karen O, Arcade Fire, and Owen Pallett. All three worked on the Spike Jonze film Her -- the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman is nominated for Original Song for her collaboration with Jonze, and Arcade Fire & Pallett are nominated for Original Score. Last month, we reported that Prince was a big fan of the "adorkable" Fox TV show New Girl, and had even submitted a script idea of his own. Now we have proof this is actually happening: a shot from the set, with the Purple One seated between Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson). The episode is set to air on February 2nd, after the Super Bowl. [Consequence of Sound]

Broken Bells, aka Danger Mouse and the Shins' James Mercer, release the sophomore album After the Disco on February 4th. The songs we've heard so far sound like they're during the disco, but now we have a stripped-down version of "The Changing Lights," recorded for the infamous La Blogothèque's "Take Away Show" series. With their shared love of '70s-style rock, it's perfect that Dr. Dog and Saint Rich are going on tour together, including a Wednesday, March 5th stop at The Neptune. To kick things off, they've released Casual Freefall, a free EP where they cover each other's songs. Hear Dr. Dog's rendition of Saint Rich’s “Dreams,” and the Saint Rich version of Dr. Dog’s “Rock & Roll.” [Stereogum]

We have a sneak peek at the first, and the last, album from Thurston Moore's black metal band, Twilight. Not only have they announced their album III: Beneath Trident's Tomb will be out March 18th, but they also confirm they're breaking up. So much for capitalizing on the teen-girl vampire trend. Speaking of the teen-girl vampire trend, Chvrches are covering the classic Bauhaus track "Bela Lugosi's Dead" for the soundtrack to the film Vampire Academy, a tale of vampires at a boarding school. Also appearing on the soundtrack will be Sky Ferreira, Goldfrapp, Bear in Heaven, Au Revoir Simone, Katy Perry (what?), and more. The soundtrack comes out February 11th through Universal Music; the film hits theaters on Valentine's Day. [Pitchfork]
