The guys in Iska Dhaaf are overachievers. Not only do they write and record music together with a meticulous eye for detail, but they both maintain separate projects besides. Seattleites will recognize guitarist/vocalist Nathan Quiroga from his word slinging antics as Buffalo Madonna from Mad Rad and drummer/keyboardist Benjamin Verdoes as bandleader of art rock group Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band and now his own solo project. And yes, Verdoes plays drums and keys simultaneously... like we said, overachievers. In the spirit of their name, a Somali phrase meaning “let it go”, and inspired by Sufi poets like Rumi, the duo leave behind the sounds they're already known for and find new ones together. Recently, this sort of supergroup stopped by KEXP to perform live on Audioasis with DJ Sharlese. Watch the full performance here:
