Get into the groove at Neumos on Saturday, February 8th with the ninth edition of Dancing on the Valentine, an annual benefit concert for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society started by producer Jenny George, who is a survivor of leukemia herself.
This year's event is also a tribute to Madonna. George explains, "My love for live music started with the very first show I attended: Madonna’s Who’s That Girl Tour. It was toward the end of my first year of chemotherapy; I didn’t have much hair and wasn’t feeling that well, but seeing Madonna perform live was transformative. I was able to lose myself in the music and forget about being sick for at least one night. For the 2014 Dancing on the Valentine, it seemed fitting to pick Madonna as the theme to celebrate another birthday that I thought I might not have as a teenager."Featured performers include Adra Boo from Fly Moon Royalty, The Redwood Plan, The Young Evils, Fox and The Law, XVIII Eyes, Lazer Kitty, Gibraltar, Three Beats Two, Hotels, Swearengens, and Magic Matches. The event will include raffle prizes from local businesses, as well as a free photo booth with pictures taken by awesome photographer Ben Haley. Tickets to this 21+ night are $15, and tickets are available online here.
“Every year is an amazing celebration for me,” says George. “I can’t express how grateful I am for everybody’s support year after year. Each person who buys a ticket to Dancing on the Valentine is special to me, and I’m so excited to have a bigger venue this year in order to raise more money for a cause that is so very personal.”
There’s always a buzz in the air as the Sasquatch! line-up announcement approaches. Like a sighting of it’s elusive namesake, rumors abound about who will grace the festival at the Gorge.
