Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Hot Water” by Fox and the Law from the 2014 album Stoned to Death on FunkFarm.
Fox and the Law - Hot Water (MP3)
Hearing these guys wail is a pleasure – they're one of those bands that brings it with each live performance and, amazingly, this energy is captured on their records too. Sometimes it feels the same spirit that rode through a band like Led Zeppelin runs through Fox and the Law. Hailing from hometown Seattle, WA, the group shakes any sonic stage they are a part of and their new album Stoned to Death is no different.
Their song "Hot Water" is a race through madness, in the best of ways. You're chasing both the white rabbit and the mad hatter and you've lost your shoes and ingested maybe a mushroom or two. The track begins with a solo guitar, as if the eyes opening, then follows down a psychedelic spiral of full band wildness. There is so much energy dripping from this track, it could probably power the elevator to the Space Needle and further on into the stratosphere.
Fox and the Law play Dec. 12th at Seattle's (revamped) Sunset Tavern as part of the Psychedelic Holiday Freakout. Check them out if you can! You can find out more on their Facebook page. For now, here's a video of the band playing live at KEXP:
