Everyone knows the Seattle music scene is thriving. With amazing music festivals like Timber, Sasquatch, Bumbershoot and Block Party, as well as hundreds of venues and places to track records, there is no shortage of music making in the Emerald City. What you might not have known – until now – are the two new TV shows that have sprung up featuring local bands.
Hangin Tuff and Band In Seattle are two very different, but equally interesting, programs that aim to bring eyeballs and awareness to local Northwest music by shooting TV-style episodes and airing them for audiences.Shot in a hot tub boat, Hangin Tuff, produced and directed by Seattle’s Bobbi Rich, is a kitschy variety show viewable online. So far, there are five webisodes of H.T. but the ever-industrious Rich is aiming to create more programming. Having featured La Luz, Fly Moon Royalty and Don’t Talk to the Cops already, the show is off to an amazing start. Recently, Rich debuted the series at Central Cinema in Capitol Hill to a sold out audience.
Conrad Denke, the mastermind behind Band In Seattle, which airs Saturdays at 11PM on KSTW, films his show at Victory Studios in Interbay. The vast – yet somehow still relatively unknown – studios has big green screen rooms, a plethora of cameras and a stage where Denke sets up a bar and brings in a live audience to give the feel of a music club. With episodes featuring Ayron Jones, Star Anna and Kingdom Crumbs, this new show is well on its way establishing itself with the city’s best performers.
Both Hangin Tuff and Band In Seattle have finished their first season of shows, with second seasons planned and underway. Check out some clips from their first seasons here:
