KEXP Suggests: Loves Me 2/14 and Loves Me Not 2/15

Celebrate the season of love — and hate — with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame radio personality Marco Collins as he presents Loves Me, on February 14, and Loves Me Not, on February 15.

Seattle sweetheart Shelby Earl kicks off the first evening of love songs, on Valentine's Day, along with Shaprece (with IGBB) and Shawn Smith (Brad/Satchel). The night promises to get sexy and soulful with Maiah Manser and Mark Shirtz.

The antidote, or anti-Valentine, occurs the following evening, on February 15, with Loves Me Not. Raise a glass to a ravaged heart with break-up songs by Jason Dodson of The Maldives, Mike Herrara (MXPX), Naomi Wachira (reviewed here recently), Ruler, S (Jenn Ghetto), Gretta Harley, and Ten Hundred (P Smoove).Each artist will play four to five songs, busting out the good stuff in a honed, half hour set at this local love fest featuring exclusively NW artists. The shows take place at the Volterra Drawing Room in Ballard — as if this was not an intimate evening already, the small space breaks down the distance between artist and audience. Marco Collins’s current focus on curating small, themed shows with artists who have rarely, if ever, played together creates something unique, something memorable. As Collins states, "It’s about creating a particular vibe, rather than a specific line-up, and showcasing a cross section of diverse NW artists." The result should be truly memorable.
