Review Revue: Icky Joey - Pooh

While there was often a healthy debate on any given album's merits at KCMU, every once in a while it seems that everybody just ganged up on some poor defenseless record for no good reason. Icky Joey (not a name familiar to me until I pulled this record off the shelf) was a super group of sorts, featuring Ed Fotheringham (renowned cover artist for many great albums and member of the experimental proto-grunge band The Thrown Ups) and the rhythm section from Love Battery. Poking around on the internet, it seems some people have a soft spot in their hearts for this band, but our friends at KCMU were not impressed, with opinions ranging from tepid to rancorous. This album is on iTunes and probably other internet listening platforms, so why not check it out for yourself and see how it holds up?

"L for library. There are a million albums which sound exactly like this, most of which have some substance somewhere, somehow. This, however, is a waste of vinyl. They're local, big deal, that's no rationalization for playing this."
