Since her arrival in Seattle, Katie Kate, rapper and producer, already carries one album, Flatland, as well as two singles, Buffalo and Zombie, underneath her belt. A New-York native and Cornish alum, Katie Kate's been creating art and impacting communities on both sides of the coast. As a consequence, Katie Kate is challenging the male-dominated field of hiphop production. Her music is poppy, gritty, and exudes raw femininity. The songs she performed live on KEX recently display the ambitious, far-reaching compositional prowess which she brings to the genre. As an example, check out "Persephone," an explosive, drum-laden, hiphop number which, if turned up to eleven, could very well shake the foundations of any concert venue. Additionally, while also incorporating elements of the more modern shoegaze genre, Katie Kate's "Sadie Hawkins" acts as a power-pop hat-tip to the anthems of the 80's. It's a powerful pastiche, and the song marks Katie Kate as yet another talented Seattle musician.
