Here at KEXP, every day is Take Your Dog To Work Day, but today, Friday, June 20th, it's officially a day to have a furry office-mate! Started in 1999 by Pet Sitters International (PSI), Take Your Dog To Work Day was initiated to celebrate the great companions dogs make and encourage their adoptions from local shelters, rescue groups and humane societies. The organization reports that thousands of businesses across the nation allow pets in the office, because they help reduce stress, encourage longer work hours but prompt short, necessary breaks, and increase camaraderie among co-workers.
So, if you haven't left for work yet, pack up the pup, along with a leash, food and water dish, and a favorite chew toy! Or, if you don't have a dog yourself, get ready to enjoy the loving companionship of a four-legged friend at the office today! If your company doesn't allow pets (perhaps you work at a Cat Anxiety Relief Facility), just check out this Video Roundup of dog-friendly songs instead:
