  • The National frontman Matt Berninger has teamed up with singer-songwriter Andrew Bird for a rework of a classic English folk song called "A Lyke Wake Dirge." This deep, intense version was recorded for AMC's Turn, a drama about Revolutionary War spies. [Stereogum]
    • If you were surprised by the direction that Alt-J took on their latest single, "Left Hand Free", released yesterday, well, apparently it was meant to a joke. The typically experimental art-pop group wrote what they told The Guardian was “the least Alt-J song ever” in response to their label's request for a "big single". Unfortunately, none of this was known to fans, who reacted positively and negatively to the song. Hopefully, you're either relieved to know it's a farce or thick-skinned enough to not feel like a chump for liking it. [CoS]
    • It's been four years but Blonde Redhead are finally back with a new album. Barragan will drop on September 2 and today they've shared a second album track. "Dripping" is a fuzzy, demure ballad that shows the softer side of synth-pop. [CoS]

    • Canadian indie rockers The Rural Alberta Advantage will release their third studio album Mended With Gold on September 20. The album's first single, "Terrified," speaks to just how scary love can be. RAA certainly pulled no punches with this track and it's incredible. Be sure to catch them in Seattle at the Crocodile on October 24. [Stereogum]

    • Last night Jimmy Fallon decided to break out his Neil Young impression alongside music guests Crosby, Stills & Nash. Together they performed a hilarious rendition of Iggy Azalea's "Fancy". It's just so ridiculous that you have to watch it. [Pitchfork]

    • Oklahoma band BRONCHO have just announced their new record, Just Enough Hip To Be Woman, and have shared the first feel-good pop single, "Class Historian":
