Kingdom of the Holy Sun - Thirteen Eyes (MP3)
What could be better for an August Song of the Day than a hazy, hypnotic drone from Seattle's own purveyors of "psychedelic shamanistic madness," Kingdom of the Holy Sun? Formed in early 2012, this local outfit combine their love of '60s sounds with '80s post-punk and shoegaze, adding a meditative, mellow raga rock influence. Think The Black Angels or Brian Jonestown Massacre. Frontman Guido Anselmi channels the haunting voice of Bauhaus' Peter Murphy, against trippy, tribal beats and fuzzed-out guitar. Today's Song of the Day is also the title track from their latest EP, a reworking of one of their 2012 debut songs, showing how far the band has come in just a couple of years: Anselmi's ever-confident production work propels the track to woozy new heights.
The band currently don't have any shows coming up, but when they do, you won't want to miss 'em. Much like their predecessors, The Velvet Underground, the band have become known for their trippy live performances, utilizing colorful animations and a light show. Stay in the loop by following the band on Facebook and Twitter. And check out a fan-filmed performance of today's featured song below.
