It’s time again for Friday on My Mind. Our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News. Hey, everybody! The weekend is here and we need to get out in the sun while the sun is still out for gettin’. This week we’re looking at music related to some of the many things going on during this weekend, so get out there! Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires - Opelika (Live on KEXP) So to kick off your weekend, tonight you can join the KEXP community out at the Seattle Center. It will be your last chance in 2014 to come on out to our summer concert series, Concerts at the Mural. Not only is it the last Mural show of the year, it’s also the Swingin’ Roadhouse edition of our concert series. Sub Pop’s Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires, we melt your faces off. You’ll also get Star Anna and Mark Pickerel & His Praying Hands. But make sure to get there when things get going at 5:30 because you’ll get to see the winner of the Pianos in the Park contest, Mindie Lind. It’s free and all ages so you have no excuses.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCJQU2alDbY William Shatner - Rocket Man Calling all trekkies! On Saturday, you can head back over to the mural at the Seattle Center and watch the super sleek 2013 J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek Into Darkness. But don’t forget that it all began almost 50 years ago with Shatner. William Shatner is now 83 years old, but you wouldn’t know it. His is Canadian. born in Montreal. Star Trek actually only ran from 1967-1969. It feels like it had to of been on for much longer. Besides being Captain James T. Kirk, he was also TJ Hooker, title character from the 1980's cop series. T.J. Hooker lasted from 1982-1986. That’s two years longer than Star Trek. WTF? A few more random tidbits about Shatner include the fact that he sold a kidney stone he passed for back in 2006. Yeah. A kidney stone. What’s even more unbelievable is that someone paid $75,000 for said kidney stone. But the story actually isn't as bizarre as it sounds, because the money actually went toward building a Habitat for Humanity home in northern Louisiana. And for an 83 year old, Shatner keeps up with the times via twitter and he vlogs about his life in a series called The Shatner Project, which is where we found this gem, “Ponder the Mystery”:

The oldest son of Bob and Rita Marley, Ziggy has been creating and performing music since he was a child and began performing as a part of the Wailers at the ripe old age of 10. Here is the official video for “Tomorrow People”, which has been Ziggy Marley’s biggest worldwide hit which was from his 1988 album, Conscious Party, which was produced by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads and The Tom Tom Club. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM8M-HHSbp0 Honorable Mentions: Mark Pickerel & His Praying Hands - I Study Horses Seriously.
