You might never expect this to happen to you: strolling through the woods, lulled by an enchanting melody, sorrowful yet sweet, and finding not some wandering minstrel strumming in a sun-dappled clearing but a 5-member band set up with an organ, an upright bass, and a full-sized harp. That's the scene passers-by happened upon as The Barr Brothers returned to the Bunny Glade at Pickathon another unforgettable session with KEXP. Like the first time they visited with us there, the Montreal-based group filled the woods with not just beautiful songs but lots of instruments. Once again, Sarah Page lugged her harp into the woods, but this time keyboardist Andres Vial brought a nicely weathered Wurlitzer, and their friend Miles Perkin hauled up his bass. As brothers Brad and Andrew led the rustic orchestra through three gorgeous songs from their forthcoming album, Sleeping Operator (due October 7 on Secret City Records), festival goers turned off the dusty trails nearby to rest their heels in the glade and enjoy the heart-warming songs of The Barr Brothers.
