Talk about a storied past. The Jayhawks rose from the fertile era of Twin Cities rock that also produced such contemporaries as The Replacements, Hüsker Dü, Soul Asylum and Prince. Though they often get tagged as "country rock revivalists" or "alt-country icons", the band's sound and personnel shifted throughout their nearly 30-year career. When one of the band's early principle songwriters, Mark Olson, departed at a highpoint of their career, Gary Louris, the only singly consistent member, took over and stretched the group's limits into pop, psychedelic rock and other styles. Olson's return, and later re-departure, changed the band again and again. Now, Louris and a reformed version of The Jayhawks, consisting the entire 1997 touring lineup, are revisiting songs from that diverse time. As they celebrate the three albums re-issued last year - Sound of Lies, Smile, Rainy Day Music - they're playing favorites fans haven't heard live in years! No need to save it any longer - the rainy days are here and we couldn't be happier.
