The Shivas - Stalking Legs (MP3)
Coming out of Portland, OR, The Shivas have been riding the wave of luscious lo-fi surf rock since 2006. Long time favorites of KEXP, the quartet have been steadily releasing an inexhaustible supply of quality EPs and LPs to appease their swelling fanbase. Recorded at Dub Narcotic Studios and mixed by Calvin Johnson, their latest offering, You Know What To Do, is the culmination of their talents - a collection of tracks indebted to early-'60s rock n' roll and a washed with a sound that's both ornately textured and brilliantly primal. Fresh off the plane after a successful European tour and more hungry than ever, The Shivas are looking at 2015 being anything but a wipeout.
One of the many highlights from You Know What To Do, "Stalking Legs" is marinated of all kinds of Tarantino cool. Reeking of cheap cologne and expensive whisky, the track sleazers and charms its way into your audibles with its seasick groove and splashed out guitars. Jared Wait-Molyneux’s vocals are hypnotic, drowning in a surf rock voodoo stew that is easily digestible but raw enough to gnaw at your gut for hours after listening to it. Walking the fine line between calculated and chaotic, "Stalking Legs" celebrates the magic of tight grooves, tighter harmonies and loose morals.
The Shivas' next gig is at the Noise Pop Festival in San Francisco on February 20th. Get tickets and more information here, keep up with the band at their Facebook and website. Do your ears a favor and watch their KEXP performance below.

Seattle's Cabana is playful and childlike in a raucus, garage-rock way. They're joyous and yet lo fi. In a way, they're all the great things that music is about. Because of this, we wanted to catch up with singer Roan Hartzog and ask him a bit about the band and what's coming up next.
