One of Iceland's most beloved and long-running bands, GusGus has involved at least 15 different people over their 20 year span. The group started as a film and acting collective but was soon acclaimed internationally for their electronic dance music. Producer Birgir (Biggi Veira) Þórarinsson is the sole thread that has run through all incarnations, but other threads seem to wind in and out of the group - current vocalist Daniel Ágúst Haraldsson was one of GusGus' founding members, long running producer Stephan (President Bongo) Stephensen helped create their latest album, Mexico, but no longer performs with the group. Long-standing vocalist Urður (Earth) Hákonardóttir also appears on a few tracks, but the most notable addition is Högni Egilsson of Hjaltalín, who adds a romantic breath to the GusGus' techno-infused synth pop sound. On the new LP's opening track, "Obnoxiously Sexual", Egilsson's eliding delivery cuts through the hazy hangover of an illicit, potentially pansexual affair ("When you woke up, I guess you didn't know I would steal you from your girlfriend") as echoes the previous night's dance craze continue to pound away any vestiges of regret.
