It's been three years since we last heard from Olympia, WA-based trio Broken Water. Not only did it take a few years to create their latest album, Wrought, but it took just as long for them to craft this video. KEXP is proud to present the worldwide premiere of the video for "Beach," shot over the span of three years.
The video is appropriately epic for the 12-minute-long track that closes out their new full-length. Written, directed, and produced by Broken Water vocalist/drummer Kanako Pooknyw, the clip starts with a view of the moon, as the music swells ethereally, calling to mind early 4AD Records. As the song builds towards the more fuzzed-out guitar sounds we know from the band, the video shifts into an eerie and impressive aerialist choreography by dance troupe Body of Water. The album was recorded and mixed with none other than Steve Fisk (Nirvana, Soundgarden), who lends his heavy, dark tone, and famed cellist Lori Goldston of Earth (and formerly Nirvana's touring cellist from 1993-94) adds an hypnotic lull, and then tension, to the track.
Broken Water's new album Wrought is out now on Night-People Records. You can hear an exclusive in-studio session from Broken Water airing on Audioasis on KEXP Saturday, May 30th at 8:30 PM PT. The band will be in town on Wednesday, May 27th, opening for Speedy Ortiz at Barboza.
Olympia noise-wielders Broken Water formed in 2008. By 2015, they broke up almost without a trace. For his first act as Throwaway Style's new columnist, Martin Douglas surveys the trio's all-too-brief tenure.
KEXP is delighted to sink our fangs into the worldwide premiere of a new track from Seattle's own Say Hi, a.k.a. Eric Elbogen. Elbogen follows up his 2006 vampire concept album Impeccable Blahs with the sun-shy sequel, Bleeders Digest, a continuation on the exploration of their lives, through song.

Simon Stålhamre may be the creative force behind Small Feet, but it was not until he found the assistance of his band mates Jacob Snavely and Christopher Cantillo along with the inspiration of an island cabin residence that he was able to create music without self-sabotaging. It's a good thing he f…
