Today’s song, featured on The Morning Show with John Richards, is “Glory, Glory” by Rose Windows from the 2015 album Rose Windows on Sub Pop.

Rose Windows - Glory, Glory (MP3)

During the five-year tenure of Rose Windows, the Seattle septet were often one of the Pacific Northwest's headiest and most enigmatic bands. Led by guitarist/songwriter Chris Cheveyo, the band's music transcended typical psychedelic tropes, often incorporating elements of folk, sludge, and a bevy of strains of Eastern music into their heavy sound. Chevyo, singer Rabia Shaheen Qazi, keyboardist David Davila, guitarist Nils Petersen, drummer Pat Schowe, bassist Richie Rekow, and flautist Veronica Dye were a singular live act, notable not only for their musical depth but also the scale of which a live septet could perform it. Across their two studio releases, 2013's The Sun Dogs and 2015's Rose Windows, they captured that sound with producer Randall Dunn to local acclaim and increasing national attention. A few weeks before the release of Rose Windows, the group unexpectedly announced their dissolution over Facebook. Although it's unclear what was occurring within the band when they recorded Rose Windows, "Glory, Glory" only shows a band firing on all cylinders. As Qazi's vocals jump from rich croon to to coy whisper to roaring yell, her bandmates move in a crushing shuffle, acting as the bridge for Qazi to glide across. "Glory, Glory" is one of the band's most direct songs, but, true to themselves in one of their last songs, they get there without sacrificing any of their thick-hazed allure that made them great in the first place.

In the note announcing their sudden dissolution, Rose Windows also cancelled all future appearances. You can view their farewell note and learn about their subsequent projects over at the band's Facebook. Below, watch the band play "Glory, Glory" during their final live performance on KEXP.
