Today’s song, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Super Transporterreum” by Menace Beach from the upcoming 2015 EP also called Super Transporterreum, due September 25th on Memphis Industries.
Menace Beach - Super Transporterreum (MP3)
Catchy, pop tinged music is not something you'd expect from a band that includes Hookworms member MJ, but that is exactly what Leads 5-piece Menace Beach creates. It makes more sense once you consider that their infectious melodies and pop hooks are rooted in chaotic fuzz and noise. It's a formula used to great success on the group's debut album, Ratworld, released earlier this year, and on the self-titled single off their upcoming EP, Super Transporterreum, the band continues the trend. The track features fuzz coated guitar riffs that let out into distortion following tempo changes that keep things unpredictable. The slacker punk chorus ensures you will know the name of the EP by the end of the song, as it is as repetitive as it is catchy. The dual vocals of Ryan Needham and Liza Violet create a pleasant melody that pairs well with the punk edge created when Ryan Needham croons alone. As their vocals cut out for the last time, the song ends with guitar distortion ringing out, a fitting reminder of how Menace Beach expertly make fun and accessible music that is rooted in raw and wild noise.
You can check out the Super Transporterreum EP in full on September 25th. In the meantime, keep up with the band on their Facebook and SoundCloud and check out their video for "Tennis Court", a track from the Ratworld LP:
