To kick things off, it's Costa Rican trio Las Robertas. I saw them play at the All My Friends festival in Tijuana, Mexico, in 2014 and was ecstatic to have them bring their fuzzy pop to the KEXP studios for a live set.
While we're on that CR neopsychedelia tip, you should be digging Florian Droids, whose amazingly dynamic Osos De Agua was one of my favorite LPs of 2014. They've painted many of my dreams during the last year.
And one more from Costa Rica: Los Waldners have a new release on the way and I couldn't be happier. Their full-length Eclipse Total Del Corazón was another 2014 fave. (The song "Papalotes" was a KEXP Song of the Day - grab it here) Here's the first taste of the new record, the single "Periodistas" and its VHS collage video.
There's no shortage of incredible music coming from this country, and I look forward to discovering more this November at Epicentro and Nrmal. I hope to see you there!
Before we sign off, let's touch briefly on Spain. It's been five years since we've heard new joints from El Guincho so the announcement of his HiperAsia release in October is stellar news. Once again, he's really flipped the script with his sound, but I think it's poppin. Check the two new tracks below:
And for more on Spain, I've put together a mixtape featuring tons of different flavors from all over the country that you can stream on-demand:
Thanks for listening. See you next time.
paz.
