Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. This week, we are featuring artists performing the 2015 Decibel Festival, which runs September 23-27. All songs are selected by DJ Sharlese. Sharlese’s pick for today is "Obsidian Falls (Archivist Remix)" by Josef Gaard from the 2015 Obsidian Falls EP on Blankstairs.

Josef Gaard, a.k.a. Nathan Levenson, and Archivist, a.k.a. Alex Markley, are two up-and-coming producers in Seattle. They’re part of a collective called Secondnature that is leading the techno movement in the NW and putting us on the map! I first discovered Josef Gaard through my friend Nick Carroll (also a member of Secondnature) who highly recommended that I check out his mixes on Soundcloud, which are one of my favorite things to listen to at work! They are dark, deep and lead your brain into techno bliss. Earlier this year, Josef Gaard released the Obsidian Falls EP, which is quite excellent, and the very last track is a remix by Archivist, who also released an EP this year called Migration, which is equally as fantastic. Both EPs are on a label called Blankstairs. Both of these guys capture all that is the heart of the genre, and this track is an excellent reimagined take between the two. Both Josef Gaard and Archivist will be featured on the secondnature presents showcase at Decibel Festival on Wednesday, September 23rd, at The Crocodile. Also performing are Cassegrain and Tin Min. If you want to know what’s going on in with local techno, this is not to be missed.
Find out more about Josef Gaard on his Facebook page and about Archivist on his page. Check out the entire Decibel Festival schedule here. For now, listen to "Elysea", another track from the Obsidian Falls EP:

We couldn't be more excited for Seattle electronic group Beat Connection, who've seen nothing but forward, progressive growth over the six years of their existence. From the nu-house leanings of their debut EP, Surf Noir, and the massive pop thresholds of Palace Garden, the band has reached a focal…
I have to remind myself every single year, every time I look at the lineup, every time I hit a single event and walk into work dog tired the next day - Seattle is so lucky to play home to the visionaries that put on Decibel Festival year after year. There are so many electronic music festivals in t…
