  • A-HA! Turns out that creepy snippet The Shins shared yesterday is part of a longer video that has been revealed today. As the press release says, "James Mercer wanted to give you all a Halloween gift while you wait for the album." So, watch the video for "Dead Alive" below. The new album will be out sometime next year. [Under the Radar]

  • Brooklyn duo Sleigh Bells share a fun new clip today, too. For the track "I Can Only Stare," director Alex Ross Perry portrays frontwoman Alexis Krauss as three "doomed women." Krauss' bandmate Derek Miller tells Apple DJ Zane Lowe that it's his favorite song on the new album, and "was partly inspired by their love of the Smiths." Their fourth full-length, Jessica Rabbit, hits stores November 11th via Torn Clean/Sinderlyn, and KEXP presents the band later that night at Neumos. [Under the Radar]

  • Brooklyn cutie Frankie Cosmos will release a limited-edition cassette tape of cover songs at her upcoming November 11th show at New York's Webster Hall. In a press release, she shares, "Whenever I’m really excited about a song I want to learn it, and it becomes the first thing I play every time I pick up an instrument. These are all songs by people I know and have seen perform a lot and have been inspired by. I recorded these covers last winter in my bedroom." Get a taste with her cover of Krill's 2014 track "Fresh Pond" off their EP Steve Hears Pile In Malden And Bursts Into Tears. [Stereogum]

  • Whether as a solo artist or with his group American Music Club, singer/songwriter Mark Eitzel creates some beautiful songs. He's just announced a new solo album, Hey Mr. Ferryman, that hits stores January 27th via Merge Records. Check out "The Last Ten Years" below, a track Eitzel says "was originally written for American Music Club and was called 'The Last 5 Years.' This was inspired by an especially toxic year spent in New York’s Lower East Side. I added five years to make it 10, though 20 years had passed. It would have been a different song if the chorus was 'I spent the last 20 years trying to waste half an hour.' I mean, that’s a lot even for me." Hey Mr. Ferryman was recorded in London and produced by Bernard Butler (ex-Suede), which is a genius pairing. [Stereogum]
