Seattle's Ignacio Izquierdo started the musical project Elia Liut when living in Ecuador. His father was an Ecuadorian diplomat and so he traveled quite a bit as a child, also living in Italy and the Unites States. The first two EPs that were created in Quito featured songs in English, but when Ignacio moved to the Pacific Northwest he continued the project this time penning the lyrics in Spanish. The first EP from the newly reinvented Elia was a wonderful set of moving indie rock with a somewhat basic guitar, bass, drums (played by Michael Lerner from Telekinesis) sound. After playing a live set for KEXP Elia was once again reinvented. The debut LP Futuro Humano finds Elia sonically filled out - it's a thick, shimmering and driving synth pop dreamland. I'm so glad this is happening right here in my backyard.
