Singapore Sling - Let It Roll, Let It Rise (MP3)
Today's featured song is "Let It Roll, Let It Rise" by Singapore Sling from their 2015 album, Psych Fuck, on Confey / Fuzz Club Records. For the past 15 years, Iceland's Henrik Björnsson has been making dark, moody rock 'n' roll as Singapore Sling. Across eight albums and a few lineup changes, the band's buzzy cocktail of influences - such as The Velvet Underground, The Cramps, Spacemen 3, The Jesus & Mary Chain, and Suicide - remains as potent as ever. Their latest release, 2015's Psych Fuck, is a sonic headkick culled from the sessions that also produced 2014's The Tower of Foronicity, but seems less of a continuation and more of a deeper exploration than its predecessor. Today's featured song, the reverb-drenched baritone psych-garage number "Let It Roll, Let It Rise", is one of the earlier tracks on the LP and might also be its manifesto. You can't but let the whole thing rise menacingly and shimmer like heat waves off asphalt.
No need to hit the road to see them. Singapore Sling will perform live on KEXP's Iceland Airwaves broadcast from Kex Hostel in Reykjavik on Wednesday at 11AM Seattle time, and we'll be broadcasting live video also on our Facebook page. In the meantime, find out more about Singapore Sling on their Facebook page. For now, watch their video for "Dying Alive", another song from Psych Fuck, below.
