  • First, A Tribe Called Quest released a new album after 18 years. And, now, Scottish siblings The Jesus and Mary Chain are one-upping them, so to speak, with their first LP in 19 years, out in March 2017. The news was announced by Creation Records founder and longtime manager Alan McGee, who excitedly wrote on Facebook: "The Jesus And Mary Chain will be dropping their new record March 2017.. on Warners… of course!!!" (note: Creation, for the most part, folded in 1999, hence the new album will be released via Warner Bros. Records.) In September of last year, vocalist Jim Reid described the new material as "more of a mature sound for the Mary Chain." Stay tuned. [Consequence of Sound]

  • It's been a week since the U.S. presidential election, and today, Seattle group The Presidents of the United States of America have announced they are breaking up. Coincidence? Probably. On the band's Facebook, frontman Chris Ballew writes, "Call it what you will but we have quietly retired from the PUSA business since we are OLD PEOPLE NOW!" Read the complete statement below. Well, despite his age, Ballew will be LIVE on KEXP this Friday, November 18th as his Caspar Babypants alias. Tune in for that at 9:00 AM PT. [Spin]

  • Well, that's weird: a song by Father John Misty was recently performed by a contestant on the NBC reality TV show The Voice. Amateur Aaron Gibson, who is part of the Miley Cyrus team (whatever that means), took to the stage to perform "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings" from the 2012 Sub Pop release, Fear Fun. I can't bring myself to embed it on the KEXP Blog, so if you're curious, click here. Misty shares our bewilderment, writing "why God why" on a since deleted post on Facebook. Instead, watch the original performed on KEXP back in 2012: [Under the Radar]

  • And speaking of Father John Misty, the band he drummed for as "Josh Tillman" years ago has announced their first show in five years. Yes, Fleet Foxes will take the stage... at the BBK Live Festival in Bilbao, Spain, for our lucky Bilbao listeners. Singer/songwriter Robin Pecknold told Facebook earlier this week that the new Foxes album is "Alllllmost done," and has previously shared that he's working on a solo full-length, too. [Pitchfork]
