Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is "Let Me Get There" by Cloud Nothings from their forthcoming album, Life Without Sound, due January 27th on Carpark Records.
Cloud Nothings - Modern Act (MP3)Life without sound is a concept that Cleveland-raised Dylan Baldi can only imagine. Since he was a teenager, he’s been releasing a steady stream of acclaimed albums. Four in eight years, plus all the touring involved around them, kept his life of buzzy rock busy. Yet on his latest LP, Baldi was able to take a year to perfect its sound. Even so, Life Without Sound is not without urgency. The album’s first single, "Modern Act", is a punchy anthem, a condemnation of the "modern act" ("can't stand the modern act / whose war is this? / whose god is that?") that also finds strength in very modern condition of being alone ("I want a life / that’s all I need lately / I am alive but all alone").
Get in touch with "Modern Life" now and look forward to Life Without Sound, when it's released on January 27th. Cloud Nothings are performing select shows before and around then, so check out their website and Facebook page for details. For now, watch them perform "Stay Useless" during Little Big Show last year:
