We often forget, but even Patti Smith -- an icon who has inspired and influenced a generation -- had her own musical idols in her youth, in this case, Bob Dylan. As you may have heard by now, Smith was invited to perform at the induction ceremony for Dylan's Nobel Peace Prize for Literature, and stumbled on the lyrics to "A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall," telling the audience humbly, "I apologize, I’m sorry, I’m so nervous." Today, she's shared an essay emphasizing, she didn't forget the lyrics, she was overcome by them. She writes: "As I took my seat, I felt the humiliating sting of failure, but also the strange realization that I had somehow entered and truly lived the world of the lyrics."
