Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJ’s think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Lung Capacity” by A.D.K.O.B. from their 2015 EP, A Different Kind of Busy, on Inertia Recordings.
A.D.K.O.B. - Lung Capacity (MP3)
Somewhere in between indie and pop and something entirely all their own, A.D.K.O.B. brings us one of the most easily listenable songs of the year. There is an unforgettable tone and ambiance to the song "Lung Capacity." The song itself, in all of its obvious complexity is so soothing, it's almost as if you forget you're listening to it. For a band that hasn't quite broken through to the mainstream- they sure sound like they know what they're doing. The band's influences range far and wide (they cite Creedence Clearwater Revival, Mobb Deep, and The Supremes on their Facebook page) and that comes through ten-fold in their music. "Lung Capacity" is somewhere between a lullaby and a fever dream.
Though the band's moniker stands for "A Different Kind Of Busy", they're not quite taken up with touring just yet. If they do become that kind of busy, you'll know about it if you keep with their Facebook page. Look for more music on their Soundcloud, and check out this recently released video for "Ghost", another song from their debut EP:
