While gale winds canceled some early main stage shows, a different force of nature was met with far warmer reception on the Bigfoot stage. Yo La Tengo is certainly a force of nature in the indie music scene and a walk back through their discography is a long one, as the group have consistently released quality material over their 30 year existence, sometimes even dropping two records in the same year. It was easy to see why the band produces new material with seeming ease at Sasquatch! Music Festival on Saturday, as their balance of psych-bordering jam tangents and delicate vocal wanderings provided two equally pleasant sonic paths for the band to explore. The group established a rhythm and then explored it either through wandering guitar riffs or vocal melodies, each time displaying their impeccable musicianship. And while they avoided playing their outstanding cover of “Friday I’m In Love” off their 2015 cover album, perhaps saving it for The Cure later tonight, the band left the Bigfoot stage with more than enough original material to eliminate any gloom that the main stage cancellations may have caused.
