When Vancouver-based band Black Mountain stepped in the studio, we got a contact high. Not necessarily from their clothing, but definitely from their heavy, sludgy, psychedelic sound. Vocalists Stephen McBean and Amber Webber trade verses over a Black Sabbath-inspired wave of droning guitar and keyboard. The KEXP session was a little bit of a homecoming, as the band recorded the new album IV right here in Seattle with Randall Dunn at Avast Studios. "Randall Dunn is kind-of a legend around these parts," explained drummer Joshua Wells. "He's known for the big crushing weight of darkness that he brings, and it's exactly what we wanted."
