Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Never Going to Die” by CC Dust from their upcoming self-titled EP, out August 19 on Perennial.
CC Dust - Never Going to Die (MP3)
CC Dust is the experimental synth duo David Jacques and MaryJane Dunphy, lead singer of Olympia, WA, punk band, Vexx. Evocative of 80s French synth with a dash of LCD Soundsystem and a pinch of Björk, their first single “Never Going to Die” features MaryJane’s signature guttural growl, combined with in-your-face electronic beats and Jacques’ steady bassline. You’ll have a hard time sitting still for this catchy track.
Fresh off a European tour, CC Dust has no US shows booked at the moment, but an impending EP release may indicate dates to come. If you have the opportunity, they’re definitely worth seeing live, as Dunphy has quite a stage presence. Keep track of them on their label's website, and check out their official video for today's featured song below.
