Song of the Day: The Big Pink - Hightimes

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. Today’s song, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Hightimes” by The Big Pink from their 2016 EP, Empire Underground, out now on B3SCI Records.

It's been a while since we last heard from UK duo The Big Pink. After the 2012 release of their sophomore album, Future This, founding member Milo Cordell left the band, moving to New York to focus on his label, Merok Records. Co-founder Robbie Furze chose to continue on, recruiting his wife Mary Charteris to the line-up. Together, they're currently working on a new album with some heavy hitters: John O'Mahoney (Coldplay, Metric, and the Cribs) is producing, while the legendary Alan Moulder (Editors, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride, and much more) is mixing. The upcoming LP will also feature guest appearances from Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow, Dave McCraken, Robert Been of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and several others. Clearly, they're continuing on in a big way.

In the meantime, they've shared this teaser of an EP, and if its any indication of what's to come, we're in for a treat. Today's Song of the Day is an anthemic declaration, with booming percussion punching through the fuzzy guitars. Charteris adds her cooing background vocals as Furze makes the bold statement, "It's about high time/ Better than the last time."

The Big Pink recently swept through Seattle back in April, where they stopped and recorded this in-studio session with us.
