Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Aeons” by Chemtrails, from their 2016 debut EP, Love In Toxic Wasteland, on PNKSLM Recordings.
Chemtrails - Aeons (MP3)There are a lot of great record labels out there, but few are as solidly reliable as PNKSLM. So, if the Swedish label adds a new band to its eclectic roster of mostly guitar-driven underground acts, you've got to hear it. Led by guitarist, vocalist and principle songwriter Mia Lust, London five-piece Chemtrails is one of the label's latest, and the band's debut EP, Love In Toxic Wasteland, is full of the kind of lo-fi psych-tinged garage rock you'd expect. "Aeons", the EP's first single, and today's featured song, makes for ebullient introduction to their sound - fuzzy melodies, punchy precision, glimmering guitar riffs, distorted delivery of lyrics that might be ominous if they weren't so joyously delivered - it's what you'd want to hear at the last house party of the apocalypse.
Hopefully, the world won't end before we hear more from Chemtrails. In the meantime, check out their Facebook page for more info and music and listen to "Burnt Shadows", another single from the EP, below.
