Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and we choo-choo-choose Dancing on the Valentine! Now in its twelfth year, this annual event was launched by leukemia survivor Jenny George as a celebration of life and her birthday. All proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Since its launch in 2004, Dancing on the Valentine has raised close to $60,000 for Leukemia research.
This year's theme is "Always In Our Hearts," paying tribute to artists we lost in 2016: David Bowie, Prince, Sharon Jones, Leonard Cohen, and George Michael, and (we wish it weren't so, but) more. Doing the honors will be returning bands Hotels, Gibraltar, Trick Candles, and Golden Gardens, and Valentine virgins Smokey Brights, Wiscon, and Wild Powwers.
As always, there will be a free photo booth and raffle prizes, KEXP's DJ Atticus (Jenny's son!) will be the evening's emcee, and DJ Mike Steves will be spinning songs between sets.
