  • The title says it all: Animal Collective have released a new single titled "Kinda Bonkers." Listen below, via a lyric video by animator/director Jack Kubizne. The track will be included on their upcoming EP, The Painters, a companion to last year's full-length Painting With. It'll feature three new songs recorded around the same time, as well as their cover of "Jimmy Mack" (made popular by Martha and the Vandellas). The Painters is out later this week, Friday, February 17th via Domino. [ Pitchfork ]

  • It's probably no surprise that Steve Gunn takes inspiration from Johnny Marr of The Smiths: they both have expressive, intricate guitar playing styles. So, it's again, no surprise, that Gunn's covers of Smiths' classics "This Night Has Opened My Eyes" and "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" are really, really good. (They sound like they might've been recorded at home?) Listen to them both at AQ, and read about how Gunn discovered The Smiths at a young age. [ Aquarium Drunkard ]

  • It was announced late last week, St. Vincent has been appointed this year's official ambassador for Record Store Day 2017... not, the actual ambassador to the country of Recordstorda. Watch below and see what we mean. Previous ambassadors have included Jack White, Iggy Pop, Chuck D, and Dave Grohl. [ Under the Radar ]

  • Say Hi, the artist finally known as Say Hi To Your Mom, is, well, saying goodbye. Founding member Eric Elbogen is retiring after after 15 years and 10 albums, but before he goes, he's hoping to reissue the first four LPs on vinyl. In fact, if you have serious bank, you could even pledge for him not to retire, and to permanently change his name back to the longer, parental-friendly original moniker. [ Kickstarter ]

  • Last night was the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, and Chance the Rapper made history with last year's LP Coloring Book, the first streaming-only album to ever win an award, let alone be nominated. The Chicago-based artist walked away with Best Rap Performance, Best New Artist, and Best Rap Album. It's hard not to smile watching his ebullient performance of album tracks "How Great," "No Problems," "Blessings," and "All We Got." Watch below: [ Consequence of Sound ]
